Gaza Eid Holiday Death Toll Climbs to 33 Amid Israeli Strikes

(MENAFN) A Palestinian was killed and eight others wounded by Israeli army fire in the Gaza Strip within a single 24-hour period, pushing the death toll across the Eid al-Adha holiday to 33, Gaza's Health Ministry announced Sunday.

The ministry disclosed in a statement that more than 130 people have been injured in Israeli attacks since Wednesday — the opening day of the four-day religious occasion. The strikes have persisted in spite of a US-mediated ceasefire that has formally been in place across Gaza since October 10, 2025.

A medical source told media earlier that a Palestinian man succumbed early Sunday to critical injuries he had sustained in an Israeli strike on Gaza City the previous day.

In a parallel crisis threatening civilian lives, the director of Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir al-Balah, central Gaza, revealed that the facility's operating rooms have been forced to shut down following generator failures caused by the months-long Israeli blockade. Director Riad Hussein issued a stark warning of an "imminent total shutdown of the hospital if this situation continues," adding that intensive care, dialysis, and neonatal units are also on the verge of ceasing operations.

Since the ceasefire took hold, Israeli attacks have claimed over 925 Palestinian lives and injured more than 2,810 others, according to the Gaza Media Office.

The truce had halted a two-year military campaign on Gaza launched in October 2023 — a conflict that, per Palestinian figures, has killed nearly 73,000 Palestinians and injured upward of 172,000, the majority of them women and children.
